To India Poem by Ananda Krishnan

To India

Rating: 5.0

Beloved India, let me light your glory in diya..
And set it floating in the tranquil waters with turbulent depths..
Frothing up tales of yonder ships and spices, opium and silk..
The flickering flame has flattering fables
Of deadly demons destroyed.
Glitters and gold, blisters and bold
Mysteries more and history told.
Diligent men with voices in swords
Elegant women hoisted in words
Warfare, welfare and well,
Fair and rare, a land like this.
Here, the sand of a red street is divine
But the hand in the bed sheet be vile.
"Four legs good, two legs bad" They preach
Four-legged food, the two -legged had.
The land has its share of crises too.
Gloating bullies and bloating bellies
Rotting away in haughty sully.
Poverty fastened to overt lies
Covert blasphemy of hovering flies
Playing politics and plotting poor tricks
Pestering the peace of the perpetual power.
With a past painted with pride
Stories of pain and gain
A hamsa that taught us ahimsa
Defying diffidence, Defining differences
We'llstand together for one more time
To know who we are..

A wonderfully crafted write that is rare on this site. Especially, from India. None of the so-called top Indian poets on this site can touch your pen. If the administrators had any credibility they would take those poets off the top 500 poets and put you there.++10

You are truly a genius. You would touch the deepest core of every Indian heart. You can speak so well, so elegant, so authentic, you have touched every aspect of Indian- ness except a little reference to the Christian order and Jainism, through either your poem or the lovely pic. However 100+++ for this great poem.
