Thy Behest Poem by Bernedita Rosinha Pinto

Thy Behest

Rating: 5.0

Sometime after death
we will meet again,
perhaps in heaven or in hell.
If you are up there
you will want to give me a hand
and pull me up;
you will even beseech God
to get me up;
and I would do the same
if I was up there
and you were down.
But if you found me down there
I would writhe in shame
if ever I have lived ignoring my sins,
if ever I have lived not wanting to know my sins
and if I did not choose to seek forgiveness
while I dwelt on this earth.
O' God, don't let me abstain myself
from enhancement of truth
as the final place
for my soul to rest
is Thy behest.
