Thoughts On Suicide Poem by John Yaws

Thoughts On Suicide

Rating: 5.0

You know? I've often wondered-

When I hear of suicide.

What was the person thinking,

Just before they died?

What solace were they seeking?

What comfort did they find?

These are the type of questions-

That clutter up my mind.

Were they fleeing from some heartache?

Or depressed by failing health?

Or an issue far more common-

Like dissipating wealth?

Was it a case of mental illness?

Or the despair of waxing age?

Or frustration of the lack of mark

They've left upon life's page?

Whatever brought them to that spot-

I greatly fear they found...

No comfort in the state called death,

Nor rest beneath the ground.
