I Write Regrets To Rhyme Poem by John Yaws

I Write Regrets To Rhyme

Rating: 5.0

I find as I grow older-
I often contemplate-
My foolish past decisions,
My days of tempting fate.

It's a wonder I survived them-
And that I know quite well.
But for the mercy of the Lord-
I'd have long since been in Hell.

I'd blame it all on ignorance-
That simply isn't true-
I weighed the consequences-
For each thing I chose to do.

Each pain I caused a loved one-
Each tear I caused to fall...
The hardness of my heart and soul-
I'll have to face it all.

I used to be quite cocky-
I am no longer so-
For age will help to humble one
As down life's road they go.

Would I change it? Maybe-
If I could turn back time,
But since I can't I reminisce
And write regrets to rhyme.

This is really beautiful. Though we all do in ignorance probably blinded eyes only able to detect when things go wrong and we discover we're the japper soaks in guilt. No matter turn around and seek good until goodness dawn.
