The Watch Poem by LeeAnn Azzopardi

The Watch

Rating: 5.0

...And when yr watch stopped, you died
I remember that morning at 8: 52
You wanted Mass to end
As the three of us surrounded yr bed
Waiting for yr last breath
My sister took off the watch that you complained
Needed a battery the week before and gave it to me
I held it to my heart watching time slowly stop,
As you gave out yr last
The time was 8: 52 am on September 9th
The passage of time consumes me now
Waiting patiently for us to be together
once more

A beautifully expressed heart-wrenching tribute to a loved one. It brought tears to my eyes. I was at both of my parents' bedside when they died in the hospital. It was very difficult, but I'm glad that I was given the opportunity to be present.
