By HUANG TINGJIAN Translated by East Sea Fairy
The east side I adorably survey
and explore
while I'm standing by the great waterway,
on its west shore.
But my sight is made poor
by the barring murky and misty woodland.
I can't see my sweet paramour
who is walking toward me along the road on the opposite strand,
so I think that only dream rendezvous isn't river-banned.
Countless love letters I have put together
by the lamplight,
yet I fail to find a runner,
though I think over and hard quite.
albeit I desire to invite,
to invite a swan goose to hand,
to hand them over to my Fair bright.
However it is too late to meet this demand,
for the last days of autumn is nearing this land.

Very moving and makes you think especially as autumn takes its grip on you
