The Unlikely Hero Poem by Alun Jones

The Unlikely Hero

Awakening from my deep slumber
New emotions inside emerging, swirling
Finally able to let down my guard
Like metal gates coming down in anticipation
Waiting to be engulfed by new excitement
And eyes opening wide like a sixth sense

What is this new sensation that I am feeling
Of being able to be human once again
Still cautious and ready to hide once more
Like a meer cat that's forever vigilant
But with a great sense of optimism
Thinking maybe the world isn't that a bad a place

The unlikely hero has helped me to see
Maybe not through rose tinted glasses
But where humanity can co-exist
The voices of a haunted past fade away
And the emotional baggage that was burdening me
Can at long last be left in lost and found

The unlikely hero shall be forever masked
A whisper in the night or a leaf falling at dawn
Helping others from their despondency
Then fleeing away for another week
Thank you masked avenger to help me see
And to be by my side and battle against my foes
