The Secret... Poem by Annette Aitken

The Secret...

Rating: 3.8

The Secret

Like an anchor dragging me down
under the burden of lies weighting
heavily on my shoulders.
A sense of justice.
A sense of duty.
A sense of what is right.
do I reveal this secret?
Is it vengeance or malice
that make me want to let it escape
or self-preservation.
To have the power to destroy another,
will it bring comfort or justice.
Is it to take revenge or to avenge,
thus allowing the culprits to go
unpunished.
Then what of the innocent,
blissfully unaware of the deceit
surrounding them.
For I have nothing to gain,
but, again the innocent.
The toing and froing of the dilemma,
in the dark recesses of my mind
of what is right or wrong
according to me.
Who appointed me judge and executioner?

Secrets destroy lives.
Can I?

The secret must be revealed if the good that results outweighs the bad.

I would always protect the innocent if I could be certain but it is a very difficult decision. A very thoughtful poem, Annette and well written.

what a wonderful write! ! Loose lips sinks ships but some ships deserves sinking, then again the second guessing begins, you captured the paradox of the issue which only you can answer, great poem!
