The Room Poem by Sarah Liz Bowman

The Room

The room is small dark and cold
The air is damp and smells of mold
My thoughts as of late have turned a little violent
Although it seems my escape won't be completely self-reliant
He is not like them in the least
Why does he work with these beasts?

The others have been corrupted by the ones who want to keep me here
They want me locked away because I see everything extremely clear
I see their true forms hidden in plain sight
I feel their chill in the night
I came close to stopping one before but ended up locked away
When I get free this 'Doctor' and 'Warden' will be the first to pay

As I said He is not like the others- he sees the truth as well
I have convinced him to help me send them back to hell
He has agreed to set me free
He is the one who herd my plea
Together we shall kill these beings
Those who feed on humanity’s darker feelings

The door creaks open at half past twelve
We slink to the janitor’s room to peruse the shelves
I find the alcoholics hidden stash
Then a brilliant idea hits me in a flash
Rouse the Doctor wake the Warden
Get them to the office say it’s important

Tell them that I've escaped
I'll hide in the office and wait
As I wait I look over my file- I see words like paranoia and schizo
You would be paranoid too if you knew what I know
Tossing my file aside I look through the desk- I find matches and a gun
I make a final check on my supplies as I hear them run

I take my position behind the desk
Their faces as they see me are quite priceless
I raise the gun and tell them to sit
As my new friend binds their feet and wrists
They still act human they try to plead
These monsters words have no effect on me

After an hour of nothing but lies
I decide it is time for them to die
I pour the moonshine on everything in sight
And strike a match and watch it ignite
The trapped demons don't even scream
Their eyes turn black and their jagged teeth gleam

The flames become too hot to stand
We back out of the room keeping our eyes on the dammed
I hear sirens in the distance but the deed is done
This is not over we have not yet won
These demons were weak easily caught
There are many more out there not so easy to spot

I have my freedom back at last
Time to move forward and avenge the past
Look for the warning signs- jagged teeth black eyes
A permanent chill and constant lies
If you are lucky and strong willed you might keep them at bay
As for the others death by fire is the best way
