She Poem by Sarah Liz Bowman

She

She’s a demon that’s why I did what I did- you see
She was a demon who fed on misery
She hid in plain sight behind a perfect mask
And yes- at first I too was fooled by her act
Little by little the mask started to crack
And I noticed I was being watched by eyes piercing and black
The more the facade faltered the more wicked she became
I began to dread hearing the sound of my name

I would not break I would not fall
This made me the best target of all
All of her rage now focused on me
I cursed myself by being too proud to flee
Endless days of toil and pain
Nothing done right I’m such a shame
Piercing black eyes and ice for a heart
She made this place twisted and dark

We suffered in silence together in hell
Slowly but surely hate started to swell
The demon sat back enjoying her work
We would cringe when through the door she would lurk
By now everyone could feel her soul sucking chill
We fought to keep it together by sheer force of will
I cried for help but no one could hear
Then what I had to do suddenly became clear

The knife was inviting so sharp and fine
I made the first cut at the base of her spine
She fell to her knees shrieking in pain
It tried to fight me but soon became tame
I hacked and I slashed until I could do no more
Finally I had evened the score
The demon could do no more unmoving in a pool of black
It was then that I felt eyes on my back

Now I sit in this cell contemplating my crime
They call me a monster I suppose that is fine
You did not see her true form- I did
In plain sight is where evil hid
A warning now I did not finish my task
A rite to send the demon to hell at last
The demon- unlike me- is still free
Watch your back hear my plea

She is looking for a new host
A cold heart is the place she desires most
Watch for black eyes and a noticeable chill
She cannot affect those strong of will
Go now do what I could not
And for the love of god don’t get caught
It knows I know- now you know too
Now her sights are set on you

A well articulated narrative poem written with intensity to capture the essence of the poem and the poet's conviction. A nice piece indeed. Thanks for sharing. Please read my poem MANDELA - THE IMMORTAL ICON.
