The Refusal Poem by lalitha iyer

The Refusal

Rating: 5.0

A Refugee
was I
yet, refused was I
I knelt beneath
yet, heavens were blind
I begged
but alms none
I struggled
arms stretched
I am not poor
but my life is tied
to strings of conditions
within imprisoned cells
I am driven
from this country
but the doors
of death closed
I am a Refugee
with no earth to stand
Refusing me
and mine
was only my thoughts
If only I could think wisely
I could see upside down
and the night a delight.
