The One That Got Away Poem by G George

The One That Got Away

Rating: 5.0

Ashley, a noun she first went by,
A Christmas holiday chatting,
And assignments shared yet,
Her proper name I couldn't ask,
Even worse, I'd never met her

Lovely she is, with fear in her eyes
Afraid to even  make a talk as I,
Books switched, thank yous and welcome,
the best  we could try to talk,
Did I say bright and smart she is?
Her statistical analysis blew me mind
And then locked in I  was,

Her real name I got, a year down the line
In the strangest of  times, we talked
And boy, she was all I've ever wanted,
Her enthusiasm got me, her eyes I couldn't turn down
Some days I tried, to no avail,
she's a gem, books she reads now,
pursuit for her best self, makes me root for her,

Her whole I wanted, seems the idea of her
Made me happy,  and even as  messed as she was,
She was a 10, she often goes not by her name,
Strange as it is, the way I talk about her
In every situation, amongst my friends, almost amounts Christ's apostles,
In love with what she's becoming, yet I still can't have her,
Early to tell, yet she's
The one that got away......
