Teach Them Poem by Jude Ogunade

Teach Them

I wandered into the green.
Where else would I have been?
Away and awhile from crooks,
Who made the cities their hoods.

Meadows green and mountains high,
Screaming streams rushing on,
Teeming birds full of songs,
Left me wondering, made me sigh!
(Sweet harmony is life here.)

My mind went on short parade.
And my thoughts in tirade.
Why are humans not as these
Peaceful plants, belling beasts?

Like shoals of fishes in sea,
Chaos swims on the streets.
Toddlers peddling wares for sale,
Whilst men tips themselves with ale!

Weeping women, maddening men!
Toddlers with wares on head,
Millions milling on the road,
Rushing to fill their throats.

Wives make churches daily tasks.
Husbands busy with draughts!
Young ones roam the road for gains,
All praying for cash rains!

Who will lift men from squalor,
Teach them how to labor?
Than collect from magicians,
What brains and muscles span.
