Taste Of Love Poem by Kinyua Karanja

I was in shackles of loneliness,
Bounds by bars of solitude,
Tethered around solitude and loneliness,
Doomed by low esteem and attitude.
In multitude of busy city dwellers
I always felt hunted by solitariness,
In caravans of weary travelers
I fought mano-a-mano with this ghost.
I poisoned it with whisky at first
And believed she succumbed to the strife.
She could manifest herself the next morning
Accompanied by her brother hangover,
They would both take turn torturing
And mocking me for disturbing
Their peace and denying their company allover.
I was forlorn and forgotten island.
People avoided me like an isolated forest
Thought to be haunted by spirits and
Demons which appears as wicked beast.
An angel passed by and heard my plea,
She saw me in this desolate state,
She embarked on a mission to set me free
And announced that it was not too late.
She took me to her arms and led me by hand.
Carried out various rituals under a tree
As we traded love words lying on the sand.
She exorcised the spirits out of me
And drowned her in the sea shore.
She offered sacrifice for me
And declared my freedom to the world.
She made me taste a thing she called love
That would dispel my fear and cold.
She flew away to sea like a dove,
I followed her to highest calm air,
The sky welcomed us warmly.
We exchanged desire of our love affair,
You accepted me and my state humbly,
I felt lucky to find love in you,
I woe you my love and life.
