Style. Fashion. Impressions Made Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Style. Fashion. Impressions Made

The best way these days,
To avoid opposition.
And perceived to have it believed,
Thoughts to have...
Are of those who are nonconformists.
Refusing to accept the status quo.
And unable to follow along,
With a way of life...
Everyone knows.
Is to dress in a clown costume.
From head to toe in full make-up.
Carrying on a shoulder,
A leather briefcase.

Letting it known immediately.
Having no one to question,
You live a serious life.
Leaving behind those made suspicious,
Business to conduct on a daily basis.
Is not only your main priority.
But also,
You have no other intention...
Than to be successful at what you do.
To go unnoticed.
Or gossiped about being a threat.

"I am glad you finally,
Accepted my advice.
And bought a designer leather briefcase.
That other one you carried?
Had begun to show its age.
I told you how vicious,
These people can be.
Especially the pretentious ones! "

-I wondered why,
People were whispering behind my back.
Thank you for the advice.
I thought there was something,
About me they disliked.-

"No!
Are you kidding?
These folks are into style.
Fashion.
Impressions to make.
I kept telling you,
It was the briefcase.
Everyone has them strapped,
On one shoulder.
And...
Leather.
The best of leather."
