String Theory Poem by R B Seals

String Theory

For the countless many, the
Often dejected and rejected
—Society's invisible elements—
History fails to witness, to remember
Lonely souls left in obscure existence:
All stun to stone, cleft in pieces by
Bitter anguish, the misfortunes, the
Sorrows that beset nameless lives.

Though intentions warm, the rising
Sun fails to quench, to nourish, to
Appease spirits in despair; sunny
Skies once set burning blue, serve
Only to fill their eyes with searing
Shades gray, drawing attention the
Oppressive weight of melancholy
That drowns the suffered soul.

For many, the magic of memories
Offered comfort: recalling events
Meaningful, noteworthy, special in
Easy remembrance.Along the way
Valued moments dismantle, decline,
Turning from bright to bleak—
Far afield the dignity, the merit,
The respect thought deserved.

Still in dreams is comfort found;
Where lofty concepts: hope, ideals,
Trust, honor—notions of free will—
Find rebirth only to dim as works of
Fiction or parables cast aside, lost in
Fading afterglow of history—concepts
Brought down by insistent realities of
Crushing non-tenable existence.

Behold the mystery of human intention;
Actions overseen by destructive whims
Of a lessor, haunting force of nature.
Enter the String Master—amusement
Seeker; empowered, unscrupulous,
Aloof, dominant, distant: controller of
Shallow minds, their powers flagrant,
Unchecked—feeding miseries' flame.

Pertinent allegory—by design:
Misanthropy, age-old paradigm;
Indeed a covenant holds sway
As the Puppeteer has his way.

Weslee, thank you for your kind input! I made some small, but vital additions to it. I hope they proved to enhance the writing and not diminish it. Thanks again... and best wishes!
