She Was Poem by Andrea Doumit

She Was

There once was a girl who dreamed of happiness,
But never knew how to find it.
The words of others were thrown at her one after another,
Slapping her in the face with a force that brought her to tears.
Slowly, she began to shatter until all she was,
Was broken.

There was once a girl who dreamed to wake up from this nightmare,
But never knew how to do it.
The once happy girl now had a heart void of emotions,
Because the emptiness inside couldn't even be filled by all the oceans.
She soon came to realize what she was,
And she believed she was nothing.

There was once a girl who dreamed for all her pain to end,
And she finally knew how to end it.
So with her last words as “I lost a one-way war, ”
She took her final breath.
And all the others finally realized what she was,
She was something.
