Sea Pollution Poem by Tom Billsborough

Sea Pollution

Rating: 5.0

Our bloodstream is the Ocean
Pulsating pole to pole,
From east to west it rises
And it falls
At the Moon's bequest,
It's living soul.
From rain to stream to Ocean
Continuously in motion
The very essence
Of our planet's health.
So why condemn it
To a micro-plastic death?
Furring its arteries
With used cosmetics,
And other non-essential products,
Poisoning the bloodstream
And potentially our brains?
We must regain our sanity
Before it is too late
And stop all these pollutants
Which vandalise our Fate.

We will not learn our lessons and the Earth will suffer. Not pessimism but reality. (Coincidently, our blood is chemically very similar to seawater)

Man has to be a little more concerned about the generation to come! As you have rightly put, it is like poisoning the blood stream and our vitals! A beautiful poem of great ecological and social relevance! A 10. On the same subject, I have posted a poem- The Dirge of a River!

This should be a matter of great concern! I am more worried about the rivers! The sea or ocean being a collection of water, stretching across continents, the pollution cannot be easily felt. But rivers being smaller water bodies are being polluted at unprecedented levels and in no time, making human life miserable.

They are going in but there's none coming out Just a matter of how long it can holdout For each plastic picked, a thousand more goes in The problem only solved when we are extinct I am a pessimist too when it comes to these issues. Thanks

One south sea island is the most polluted place on earth for plastic. It's so sad. And the loss of clean seas is really laden with doom.

Ocean is pulsating pole to pole. The very essence of our planet's health depends on purity of this. But pollution is thought provoking that hampers the biological balance of life system. Very thought provoking sharing this is.10

Thank you, Kumarmani. If we don't take care of our planet, it won't be able to take care of us.

I was captivated first by the rhythm of the ocean waves swelling and ebbing in this poem- -it was like the poem was breathing, Tom. What a fascinating thing to do- I wish I knew the secret to such a piece of poetic magic. However you did it, this deep motion of the ocean... [ha! I am a poet and don't know it].... reinforces the message, The ocean is speaking to us through these verses to stop killing her and through her pollution to kill the rest of this lovely creation. May the world of man hear and heed your words. This as certainly a brilliant write deserving of a thousand million tens ***********

Hi Susan, I think the notification system has gone kaput again. I was trying to get over the fact that all seas are inter-connected as we ourselves are and that issues such as global warming and this terrible water pollution by plastics and other insoluble pollutants affect us all. One of our Daily papers, the Daily Mail, is currently running a strong campaign against this pollution from shower gel beads and I was wondering whether to send this in to support them. I know you and other members are very concerned about the State of things and have written some very good poems on various topics.
