I took time to consider-
Then I had to tell my heart,
Decisions I'd been making-
Were tearing me apart.
One can't live on 'ought-to-be's'
Or, "Boy, I wish it were's"
It tends to rake the concience
Like the Devil wearing spurs.
Middle age, and crazy
Go hand in hand I'm told.
Something I cannot explain-
Has surely took control.
I had to make my mind up
The choice I had was plain...
Die from all those daydreams
Or live on with my pain-
I'd rather live another day-
and see what it will bring.
The hazy days of autumn,
The fresh ones of the spring.
Trying to live on might-have-beens,
Might pretty well compare-
With living in a vacuum,
Instead of breathing
