Pride Of Man

Pride of Man
(a poem written by Shakil Ahmed)

Man builds his dream castle
Enduring pain and agony
Aspiring peaceful wink of sleep
He swots hard day and night
To fulfill his soothing dream
He nurtures and naurishes it
As baby of hanging cradle
Caressing every moment
With a palp of his love-lit hands
He adorns his dream castle
With cantours of colours
Stealing hues from evening rainbow
It stands like a colossal mountain
Exhibiting audacity and pride
Of transitory mortal man.

Behind the curtain, someone laughs
Discerning the plight of mortal men
Life of man begins with myriad dreams
Awe fully ends in huge nothings
A colossal void only reigns
Disdaining the pride of earthen men.
Pride of man perishes
As bubbles of air
Earthen man turns into earth again
