Our History Poem by Randy McClave

Our History

You hate how our history books are written
How it says the many races and beliefs we have smitten,
You want to read how we fought and won our liberty from Britain
But, not about the slaves or native Americans we had stricken.
You want are history books to deceive,
You want the history of our country to be lies and make believe.

You don't want our history books to speak of genocide
And about the innocent millions native Americans that had died,
How we hated them because of their pride
And how to them we constantly cheated and stolen and lied.
We don't want that written in our history books,
We don't want to remembered as murderers and liars and crooks.

You don't want our history books showing that we owned slaves
Or how we mistreated them as we did the Native American braves,
And how for ownership we brought Africans over the ocean's waves
Then they were used and mistreated and dumped in unmarked graves.
But, then that time of our country should stay a mystery,
So, of course we don't want that written in our book of history.

You don't want our history books to speak about women's rights
And how our history should only be written by whites,
You don't want it written about suffrage, racial riots and fights
Or giving murdered children by the NRA, their last rites.
You don't want no-one to read about a country of bigots and racists,
Especially those who don't speak English, and white isn't their faces.

Now why don't you marinade on this a little bit
Our history is so bad, so about it it's truth you don't want to admit
It causes other's frustration and anger and a hateful fit
So, you decide you just want to ignore, or better yet hide it.
So, then you came up with an ingenious plan,
From censorship and burning books, our true history you want to ban.
