Our Frightening Future Poem by L MILTON HANKINS

Our Frightening Future

Rating: 5.0

Pockets of small militant groups are threatening
While unrest swirls around us in the streets
Election season … or, facing a second Civil War?
Americans find the possibilities ever frightening.

Social and political polarization has created
Unbridgeable gaps between friends and neighbors
And promoted severe rifts within families
Social and fraternal groups caught in the hatred.

The authority of the church is compromised
Our educational systems are arguably failing
While systemic racism throughout our culture
Loses sight of ultimate human rights so prized.

What happens if violence becomes the daily lead
If wild and reckless militia groups roam the land
Seizing control wherever they can overpower us
A stable, democratic leader we desperately need.

I remember a time when anyone who said anything negative about America was hated. The attitude was " My country may she always be right but my country right or wrong" . The problem is if too many ignore fault, problems which all countries have, the problems may become worse or dangerous. Many people around the world are worried and afraid for America. Many pray for peace in America.
