Odd Man Out Poem by Robert Peacock

Odd Man Out

Rating: 5.0

This Is A Poem
About The Odd Man Out
His Earliest Attention
Was A Scream Or A Shout

He Was In The Middle
Of A Litter Of Three
And He Wasn't Quite Sure
What He Wanted To Be

The Older Was Smart
And The Younger Was Cute
So His Ideas Were Taken
As Nothing But Mute

Nobody Understood Him
So They Said He Was Wrong
If You Want To Dance Son
Make It To Our Song

His Childhood Was Spent
Tying To Even Things Up
But Never Once Did He
Drink First From The Cup

A Sports Star And A Scholar
Was What Was Expected
Boy Were They Disappointed
With The Path He Selected

Some Said It Was The Drugs
Rock Music Or He's Crazy
Others Just Said
He's Smart But He's Lazy

But If All Of Your Ideas
Get Shot Down From The Sky
Pretty Soon You Give Up
And No Longer want to Try

These Are All Things
That The Odd Man Recalls
But He Rolled With The Punches
And He Took All The Falls

Then One Morning He Awoke
And Looked Into The Mirror
Suddenly He Saw Things
Becoming Much Clearer

Every Time He Reached Out
Nobody Was There
So When They Finally Reached back
He Pretended Not To Care

While All Of The While
Being Lonely And Blue
He Was To Proud To Admit
He Needed Their Love To

So Now He Sits Back
And Sings Sad Songs
Hoping Someday To Find
Somewhere He Feels He Belongs

Somewhere He Can Live
Without Any Doubt
That He Is No Longer
The Odd Man Out

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This one is dark and is about my childhood growing up in a dysfunctional family. I wrote it many years ago. 'Kick The Dog' syndrome was in place and I ranked lower than the family dog. I have many dark poems but choose to share mostly the positive ones.
