My One True Love Poem by Victor Cruickshank

My One True Love

How far are you from home?
How far from my embrace?
As years go by, I miss you dear
As I sing our song I hope you hear
How far are you, my love?

If I knew your location, I'll send a dove
With a message for the one I love
I expected you in the summer
You didn't show up, I remember
We would've gotten married in June

My love, the words I speak are true
I expected you in the Fall
'Cause that's when you fell for me, after all
After all my persuasions were doomed to fail
You gave me your heart and I gave you mine

I expected you in the winter
Thought you would need my comfort and shelter
From the wicked cold winds
And I expected you in the spring
With all the rain and those slimy things

Moving around after the rain had poured
I thought you would be back on vacation
So we could celebrate the occasions
Together as one, as my love would want
But I guess true love is hard to find

And when found is taken away
How could you be taken away, why death?
Even though I pray, still pray for me
Till we meet again, my one true love.
