My God Is Kind To Me (Happy New Year 2016) Poem by Bernedita Rosinha Pinto

My God is kind to me
I have lived these many years of life
in health and joy, in love and hope;
I have the kindness of my God upon me
as I am here year, after year
to watch the sunsets and the rainbows;
so many monsoon showers
have drenched my soul,
so many friends have walked the road
along with me, though they are now old;
so many teachers have taught me in schools
so many have been my students, too
some have never forgotten my name;
so many miles of time and life have gone
yet, with me is the love of those
who still want to love me;
in the abyss of my expectations,
I ask God for nothing
knowing God knows what I need
and He will give it to me slowly,
for in the propaganda of my dreams,
I do not want to be overloaded
with happiness lest I loose it
or see my enemies gaining more envy;
I will never wish for
the rest of my years to be wasted
by those who want to steal away
the health and peace I hold and cherish
neither will I want in abundance anything
by depriving others of what they deserve.
O' let me pass with honesty
this long and winding road of life
amidst the little bumps and hurdles of time
that takes me up and down, temporarily
but on daily basis,
let the kindness of God be upon me
while you can come and share
the innumerable blessings I enjoy
or you can come and hold my hand
and sing the songs of love and friendship
which we sang at your birthday party,
or at the church square on new year's eve.
