My Deceased Father Who Died When I Was In The 6th Grade Poem by Gayathri Seetharam

My Deceased Father Who Died When I Was In The 6th Grade

My deceased father who died when I was in the 6th grade
-Gayathri B. Seetharam
Dear Daddy, I write this note to you
To you who hath become a dead soul in God's land
It was a tragedy that struck our family
Too soon and we were never the same happy family again;

You were loved by all
And feared and cursed by none
You died with a smile on your face
That bespoke of the beautiful soul you had been;

Mummy was inconsolable
And she tried ever so hard to
Make up for your loss
And raise us beautifully;

She did the things you would do
When you came from your workplace
And holidayed with us for about 3-5 days
For my 7th grade birthday, Mummy took me to the movie, Ice Castles,
And got me a 5 set collection of Trixie Belden books
And treated me to a Lakeview Special ice cream
She was sorrowful and was weeping bitterly at the sight of me, a fatherless child
And I could not help but think, What an even more wonderful time we would have had had you been with us, Daddy;

Time rolls on, determined in its goal to move forward and make things happen
But as I wait for the groundhog to come out of its hiding place and declare it is spring and summer in my life
I think of thy soul, Daddy, wandering in confusion,
Waiting to be united with us again
And all I can think of saying is that you were and are a beautiful spirit.
