Lucien Poem by Joseph Narusiewicz

Lucien

Impasto supine thick paint
Lucien Freud reciting poetry
Portrait painter like no other
Color, off like a mummy
Like a scene gone yet remembered
Analysis, German Impressionism
Nervous energy in tense time
London studio as recluse as shyness
Charcoal on a canvas

The work is what matters
Such unusual skin color
Pets and dogs part of life
Eyes tell so much
Character under the knife of therapy
No flattery
No romantic poise
Mattresses, Horses, unkempt houseplants
He took his time, now he's immortal
