Johnny Joe Poem by Franklin Spriggs

Johnny Joe

Rating: 5.0

I was taken to a park one day,
To sit and rest awhile,
When before me stood a little girl,
With a very pretty smile.

I smiled at her and said hello,
She asked what was my name,
I told her it was Johnny Joe,
She said my uncles is the same.

My uncle went away from me,
When I was only four,
My mommy said he had to go,
He had to leave and fight a war.

I hear he can't remember much,
That he got hurt real bad,
And when I think of my uncle,
It makes me kind of sad.

You do look very familiar child,
I only wish I could recall,
I don't have a very good memory,
I can't remember much at all.

The nurse told me Johnny,
It's time to leave the child alone,
I have to get you back now,
To the old soldier veterans home.

I thanked the child for her time,
Maybe I'll see you again some day,
Until you see your uncle Johnny,
Don't ever forget to pray.

This was not a prayer but it was very moving. It was so moving I thought it deserved a 10. GW62
