Jealousy Poem by Josh Mitteldorf

Jealousy

A horde of lovers you've invited in
Accosts me as I enter at your door.
Though liberality be far from sin,
This strikes me as a venal bidding war.
Is your abundance such as we must share,
Or will you choose the one who offers most?
Does one among them genuinely care,
Or seek they merely favor from their host?

You comprehend that it become you not
To genuflect before these knaves and boors.
Certes, you were born into a better lot.
You lose all honor with this coquetry—
But can my shame be reckoned less than yours,
To feel for you such gnawing jealousy?
