In The Rain You Called Yourself Poem by Nathaniel A.Wallace

In The Rain You Called Yourself

(A response to "In the Library Skylight")

Though sir, did I ever say 'I love you, '?
I never left nor promised you clear -
I believe it was more like 'yes, I do.'

Are they yours, the years we trivialized as two?
Or more - to me, fore'er you were so dear;
Though sir, did I ever say 'I love you'?

Pure recollection is faint - even the new
Events alone could not have brought us here
I believe it was more like 'yes, I do.'

The courting, red, romantic lights you glue
Held us steadfast each Christmas, round the year
Though sir - did I ever say 'I love you'?

When I acquiesced for you to shine, I knew
With me your mistress - sir, so cavalier
I believe it was more like 'yes, I do.'

‘Twas my Parian face, lost in your coup
The noncommittal jaunt around the spheres;
Though sir - did I ever say 'I love you? '
I believe it was more like 'yes, I do.'
