In The Rain Poem by Reva Kern

In The Rain

Rating: 5.0

Concealed in my raincoat,
I walk in cozy abandon
Through mist and rain
With my hands dug deeply
Into warm pockets
Relishing the tranquility
And simple solitude
Of an early morning walk
While raindrops beat a
Steady rhythm upon my head -
A great black crow
Greets me with a call
That echoes through
The fog
While he, perched high atop
A lamppost
Peers down on me
With a penetrating gaze
Never perceiving the pleasure
I have found
In the trees whose sculpted shapes
Are outlined against
The gray sky
Reminding me of earlier times,
Of days, like today,
Of my childhood walks
Along the deserted country lane
With the sweet smell of hay,
The lowing of cattle,
And the soft whinny of horses-
All this and more
Lovingly recalled
In memories
On an early morning walk
In the the rain.
