Smokes and blinding lights
miracles and wonders
I sell to you my fellows
Come and taste
what it isn't there
Now you see them
and now you don't!
Can you recognize
what's real?
Because I surely cannot!
Buy my illusions...
τι είναι αλήθεια;
Εγώ σίγουρα όχι
Αγοράστε τις ψευδαισθήσεις μου...
I do not think that we can BUY illusions, dear Kostas. Your illusions are YOURS and my illusions are mine, BUT IF you mean the illusions of a professional illusionist, those professional tricks of the professionals, those are only for the show/performance of a professional to earn his money for his daily living. We are the ones who want to be entertained. I know that his are learned tricks, we KNOW that they are tricks, but since I have not learned the tricks, I cannot do them.
The " illusions " of the poem are the lies people say and false promises they give. The illusionist can be anyone: a politician, a religious / spiritual leader, a scientist, our neighbor or even someone who was supposed to be our friend.
