If This Were My Last Day On Earth Poem by John Yaws

If This Were My Last Day On Earth

Rating: 5.0

If this were my last day on earth-
I knew it to be so...
To use my time for all it's worth-
Would be my goal, I trow.
I'd find a place serene and quiet-
To sit and muse awhile.
And search my heart for bitterness
I'd try my best to smile.
I'd try to bring a ray of cheer-
To some down trodden life…
And spare some time of fellowship-
With children and with wife.
I'd reminisce on years gone by-
The pathways I have trod;
And try to set things wrong, aright-
And make my peace with God.
I'd try to see beyond the veil
To where my journey ends-
And long for that unbroken rest
With comrades and with friends.
I'd try my best to set forth hope-
And give a sense of worth-
To every soul who crossed my path
On my last day on earth.
