Humility Poem by samson ogbeewi

Humility

Rating: 4.5

Stories told about oneself by mouth,
are filled with lies or broken truth;
for what the heart might be underneath,
the mouth will tell and exagerate.

The truth about one you wish to know
are found in their eyes when gazed so slow
for the eyes you know will tell no lies
but the lips of men are like buzzing flies

when men are asked
to say their names,
in a congregation,
as the case may be,
they add titles to it
to flatter themselves,
for the comon man also
to feel downcast

but what we trully are, Are dust of the ground
This life we so cherish,
The secret we've not found;
For if we can bring ourselves so low to the ground,
our greatness, we'll see, will know no bound.

Humility is a very important virtue to embrace, as it guards against ones proneness to excesses, especially when one has achieved success in life. It's a well articulated piece of poetry nicely penned with insight. Thanks for sharing Samson. Please read my poem MANDELA - THE IMMORTAL ICON.
