Hugs No More Poem by Darwin Henry Beuning

Hugs No More

Rating: 5.0

A new season upon us,
A virus summer -
Social distancing and no hand shakes -
The New Norm.

But, what is missed more,
A hug, whether it be -
A hug between parent and child;
A group hug at a sporting event;
Or a sad event,
A wake, with words spoken -
So sorry for the loss.

Hugs no more

Great and emotional writing about the new norm. This virus has done a lot more than taken lives. It has stolen a sweet expression of warmth and compassion that brought people together. Saying good bye to another sweet expression that now is a gesture of the past.

Due to summer virus Corona, we have suffered a lot. The world has cried very much. Many remained in quarantine. Every morning is new but at present no one shakes hands. This poem is very amazingly and excellently penned...10

I believe my sister (aged 75?) said she hugged a h.s. classmate of mine (72 y.o.) at the woman's husband's funeral. So there! It CAN be done. I saw in a newspaper that in our coastal county in California, Humboldt Co.. a fifth death 'from virus infection' has been reported. But there have been over 400+ positive testings have been reported. And active cased now number 65. So, it ain't a death warrant for all. bri :)

Finally, after eight days since I posted my first poem, Poem Hunter has allowed them to be activated. I have six poems, three of which are limericks. My latest is " The Doctor's Verdict" , just posted a few minutes ago and already it shows up.

It is true of my country also-no more hugs, or at least not so many. This poem really makes me think. Is social distancing really so regrettable? I don't mind handshakes, but I don't go in for hugging. Never have. Still a tremendous poem.

So sad that we have lost the one thing that most of us need the most!
