Heroes Of A New Wave. Poem by Monkals Kalu

Heroes Of A New Wave.

Here comes a wave!
A strong wind blowing
Through the nostrils of
A smart wilful progeny.

Their roars are clearly
Designed and defined,
Their strengths drawn not
From the rains or the sun, but
Systemic rots caused by old crooks.

Here comes a wave!
A peaceful outcry for
Justice and accountability.
With their loud and firm voices,
Chanting, 'Enough is Enough! ',
As it echoes beyond their shores.

Their course is beyond
A demand for desolation
Of the old or new killer unit, but
A holistic overhaul of a system,
For the sake of a future hoped for.

Here comes a generation,
Who were told would be the
Leaders of today, but inherited
A knife of discord that divided their
Parents through ethnicity and religion.

Here comes a wave!
A leaderless movement;
Here leaders aren't trusted,
So don't ask who the leader is,
Cos the old ones forced on them,
Have caused them enough tears.
They're all leaders in this street!

Now understand the wave;
They're Leaderless,
But well coordinated.
They're angry but peaceful,
They're not here for any
Crocodile tears,
Neither are they here for its smiles.
They're the Heroes Of A New Wave.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
In Nigeria, the youths have been deceived by the ruling class for too long, so I thought this piece might help in re-echoing the stance of the youths, in solidarity to their demands..
