Herman Melville Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Herman Melville

Herman Melville

Portrait on the wall
I watch and, beard count
Then look in both your eyes
And we talk…
Reference Persian Gulf.

I flew for radar
I flew to Oman
I carried men of war
And at last
In the ship, like you wrote
We stayed as shipmates
Watched and caught animals.

Oh, Herman
You and I have a lot
To the end we must talk
You named it Moby Dick.

What should I?
What should I?
What should I?

Catching fish
Cutting sharks
Scared of Stingrays
Threw back to the sea
Crumbled were the fish
And the mouths seeking air
Or water?

And at end I landed in the cell
…prison…
Abandoned; as you were…
We must talk
I must write…
Yes…I must.
