Gujarat's Morbi Bridge Has Fallen Down Poem by Bernedita Rosinha Pinto

Gujarat's Morbi Bridge Has Fallen Down

Morbi Bridge has fallen down!
yes, a bridge as old as hundred years has fallen down,
so predictable and certain to fall,
so many loss of lives and so many injured and gone
in that tragedy after that great old bridge fall.

Was this such an unexpected event
or was this just a - ‘let today be gone
and tomorrow will dawn'- kind of a sequel
that prevailed there on that old bridge
that people could commute on it until it fell?

Is this incident not carelessness
or is it an act of oversight
for such hopelessness and helplessness to surface
that an old bridge collapses so unexpectedly
and sends people falling into the river so mercilessly?

And as some sit sorrowing out there for their dead,
some sit in pain due to drastic injuries;
and as they keep running to search for survivors
all is in vain as life has been placed in fear
as their eyes of trust are now filled with anguish and tears.

Who will ever want to forget this disaster,
yes, who will ever succeed in replacing
their aura of reliance and calmness
when all damage has been done
and gloom has taken away the tranquility
when one old bridge fell and changed their life and peace
so abruptly and so unexpectedly?
