Graduation Picture Poem by Amy Marie

Graduation Picture

The almost green and narrow eyes stare down -
From behind the invisible glass - day after day -
At the real me.

In the green-framed picture -
I blissfully smile with spaced teeth as I clutch
Femininity's signature red rose -
As if naming it mine forever.

The black velvet drape
Once hung over my flat shoulders -
Almost making a mockery out of
My unwelcome shortness.
But I wouldn't let it.

Now the drape hides like a child's not found toy -
Folded up and smoothed out
In a long lost dusty wooden drawer of memories.

Only Femininity can find it.
May she reveal to me its cozy new home?
Not quite.
Not yet.
