Graduation Day Poem by Tshenolo Ntau

Graduation Day

CELEBRATING DR SAMUEL LETANG

Anxious and curious to push the usual boundaries
Cast on stone by human imagination
Accepted as given and adapted to by the society in which we leave
Seemingly too burdensome to challenge nor question
But the intellect in you brings a burning desire to seek more, to know more
That is man in pursuit of wisdom, man in pursuit of knowledge

Just when we all thought we have arrived
Only to be confronted by the world realities that high school is actually the beginning
Only to be confronted by the world realities that first degree is actually a step, just 1 step
Nor second degree masters desired destiny but just half way stop
Oh! How could it be?
Simply because it's man in pursuit of wisdom, man in pursuit of knowledge

As we gather here to celebrate the man in pursuit of wisdom, man in pursuit of knowledge,
May the intellect man in you be awakened and quickened and challenged
A while ago was a spectacular moment, the women and men in pursuit of knowledge
Draped in colorful prints, paraded majestically
In a meticulously assembled entourage one after another, heads down, humbled yet raised by their milestone achievement
What an encouragement
Gold there is, rubies in abundance, but lips that speak knowledge are a rare jewel
Man in pursuit of wisdom, man in pursuit of knowledge
