For I Could Not Pause For Life Poem by Amar Agarwala

For I Could Not Pause For Life

Rating: 5.0

Because I could not pause for life
She kindly paused for me,
Her carriage held but just ourselves
And hospitality.

We quickly drove, she seemed in haste
While I had tucked away,
My treasures and desires too
Nay immortality.

We passed the bend where stood a church
Then crossed the shanty town,
We passed the lea beside the lake
We passed the hillock brown.

We rushed into the falling dusk
The skies hued gray and blue,
Could fathom not my destiny
Nor had the least of clue.

I heard it not but life did tell
To mind my vanity,
That I may live in blessedness
Forsake not sanity.

The mystic shroud of passing time
Forbade my heart to find,
Old memories and mirthfulness
That I had left behind.

Our lives are a book of memories filled with pictures we've taken through the years and placed within the albums of our minds, reminding us of the lives we've lived. Liked the tone and rhythm of this poem, a mystical soothing balm covering the soul with it's thoughts of death. Thank you for sharing. RoseAnn
