POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I went to Ukiah, California to spend time at a Buddhist monastery. Around that time, I was obsessed by haiku. I had copied down my favorites from masters like Basho and Shiki. While at the monastery, I wrote down my epiphanies in a notebook full of haiku. Later, that notebook was unfortunately lost.
