First/Last Kiss Poem by Randy McClave

First/Last Kiss

She remembers when we met,
Even the color or her lips and dress
She remembers it all I must confess,
But, she forgets the later sadness and regret.
She remembers the first night that we were together,
How we held hands and passionately kissed
How our feelings were not ignored or dismissed,
And then how I told her that I loved her.
I wrote her poems and I bought her gifts,
Because my soul and my heart she had inspired
I finally found the woman that I truly and deeply desired,
She was my inspiration, and love lifts.
I bought her pearl earrings for her to wear,
And anything else that she wanted or needed
Even though I knew my actions I should have heeded,
But, I was again in love and truly I did care.
Later, she then lied and she also cheated,
She wasn't the woman that I thought that she was
She was in lust, but I was in love,
Faithfulness was a course that she had never completed.
As a fool I still cared and I still helped her out,
Whenever she was in trouble or in a bind
I still treated her lovingly, and kind,
I didn't want to see or hear her hurt without a doubt.
She had made promises to me which she quickly broke,
And I can still remember them one and all
It was her morals and not mine which did fall,
Then came that one morning, when alone I awoke.
Now as I think back unto our past,
I just remember the heartbreak and all the pain
She probably just remembers her gain,
She'll remember the first kiss, and I'll remember the last.
