Fire Poem by Dorothea Mackellar

Fire

Rating: 3.8

This life that we call our own
Is neither strong nor free;
A flame in the wind of death,
It trembles ceaselessly.

And this all we can do
To use our little light
Before, in the piercing wind,
It flickers into night:

To yield the heat of the flame,
To grudge not, but to give
Whatever we have of strength,
That one more flame may live.

Nice lines I quote: To yield the heat of the flame, To grudge not, but to give Whatever we have of strength, That one more flame may live.

This life that we call our own Is neither strong nor free ....... Whatever we have of strength, That one more flame may live.....wonderfully written about the agony of earthly life; it reminds me- " man born free but everywhere in chains" ! - fire all over there in life, the earthly greedy life, fire for those who knows only to demand, demand after demand makes the human life unstable and fired unpeaceful

Great quintessential bush poetry, inspired by her experience on her brothers' farms near Gunnedah, North-West New South Wales. I have enjoyed tremendously

Amazing poem about the bush. Though born in Sydney, she loved the bush life at her brother's farm. She is a great poetess from Australia. Excellent narration 5 Stars

I am writing a book on a particularly wicked fire 10 years in central Texas and find that this poem reflects the resilience of the burnt-over communities. How do I request copyright permission to include it in my book?
