Eve's Relevant Secrets Poem by Barry Middleton

Eve's Relevant Secrets

Rating: 5.0

the relevant secrets elude me
the tree of life and knowledge
alas banned for unknown motives

if gods had looked the other way
forgiving me my minor indiscretion
then I would never have to die

a rose sheds a tear
embers of the fire are spent
the garden in snow

my frightened heart cries for life
beyond the clouds an icy mystery
chills the blossom of all eternity

the breath of the goddess waits
again to share the apple's kiss
a taste immortality denied my lips

A wonderful poem and a beautiful graphic to complement it. Enjoyed reading. It's a great theme to write on n it's amazing that you have written it from a woman's point of view.10

Thanks very much Nosheen. I have always felt that Eve got a bad rap. Glad you liked the poem.

Perhaps a better answer is that I see Eve's apple and Aphrodite's golden apple as the same apple basically. And Eve and Aphrodite as the same woman or goddess.

I identify Eve with the goddess element and with Aphrodite but this poem is really all about Eve.

It's a very poignant poem from a Woman's angle. how much suffering has this story caused throughout the ages. i prefer goddesses myself! A very fine and thoughtful poem, Barry.
