Drifting Smile Poem by Jayne Doe

Drifting Smile

My smile has met my eyes
More than a thousand times
Though they still feel like strangers
Each time they say hello
With an uncertainty
That only grows
As they think they should know
More of each other
After all the time
They've spent together

Goodbye, hello
Hello, goodbye
Time comes and asks them why
They never seem to stick around
Once they've found each other
But it brings with it
Unwanted gifts
Which only drift
The two apart.
