D-Day And The Battle In Normandy Poem by Elizabeth Padillo Olesen

D-Day And The Battle In Normandy

Rating: 5.0

70 years ago on the sixth day in the month of June
Allied forces were determined to invade Normandy
156,000 American, British and Canadian forces
rallied around to oust the supreme reign of the Nazis.

Hitler's plan to spread power through the borders of France
was aborted by D- Day invasion launched along beaches,
where the blood of more than 4,000 was too high, the price-
paid for by lost lives and the 10.000 allied casualties.

Operation Overlord, the code name for the battle
in Normandy, ended up to Operation Neptune as D-Day.
The battle was not immediately won; it took days or weeks
or even months in continuous struggle with freedom as the goal.

Come therefore and celebrate D-Day from June to August
Know other European forces, lately mentioned
in history, played also their role for D-Day!

Ring the bells, play the drums and remember D-day:
The day of victory for the great act of solidarity,
The day to say No to racism! No to anti-Semitism!
And big yes and hurrah to freedom and liberty
from the oppressive Third Reich's Nazi!
