Culture Complexity Lost In Translation
anchors a few hook words we could understand
if lucky we could read the poem in translation
a good translation from the original to our language
a good translation of accurate meaning is not poetry
it takes more than a poet to translate a foreign poem
the translators skill ability must be equal to the task
equal to the task depth complexity in both languages
But did the translator understand all subtle themes?
much is will can be lost in translation
some languages cannot translate a sentence
accurate from one language to another
denotative meaning an explicit literal
meaning is far easier to translate but
some words have more than one meaning
multiple meanings cultural emotional
are passion poetic lost in translation missing
layers of meaning stripped in translation

Translation is an art and a skill for which you need to have a fair amount of knowledge of both the languages, cultural background of people at both ends plus a passion for words to find out the exact shade of expression. It should not be mechanical or imposed. Thanks.
Without German language and culture, both of which have changed since Heinrich Heine died, it was possibly to work only with poems in translation. Despite speaking several languages, and being familiar with a culture of wealth and privilege, Heine wrote in German and focused on nature and love. Therefore all poems I write inspired by Heine were direct reactions or inspirations to more easily translated themes.
