Christmas On White Ghetto Street Poem by Kevin Patrick

Christmas On White Ghetto Street

Rating: 5.0

Homeless Santas sing in gutters
Roasting Christmas cards in garbage cans
And teenage moms play helping elves
To score Jack frost in twenty Grams

The lights are half dead on our roof
and rats are snuggled in our tree
while beer cans hang as ornaments
our mistletoe is homegrown weed

And everybody has a gift
From cousin jane to granny jean
Mom has wine and dad just whines
How white Christmas just bleeds him Green

Cousin Timmy has a baseball bat
With barbed wire around the barrel
He's off to hunt a squirrel or two
Or drummer boys who still carol

Uncle Larry's got a rubber ball
To match the lingerie, he wears
Aunt Sally has a black strap on
To use for their games upstairs

My Sister got a chemistry set
She's in her bedroom cooking meth
The air is thick with crystal scent
Like cookies off a junkies breath

And I've got bling to make yule sing
And Cash galore to buy a Lexus
Cause I've got bank from frosty nose
To purchase half of west Texas

And children beat up feral elves
With Rudolph's busted feet
Its best to run from this Merry hell
From Christmas in white ghetto street

Part 3. Let us hope for a day when there are no ghettos, no drugs, but a day when there are plenty of smiles and hugs.

Part 2. But it's significance is totally different for the rich and the poor, in the High

For me, this poem is a haunting one. Of course, it is written in a humorous language. But the poverty and grime affects one's heart. Christmas is a season of joy and mirth for all, true.
