Chance Poem by Kinyua Karanja

Chance

Sometimes you reflect in the world,
Amusement struck you point blank,
You frankly open you mouth to smile,
Tears roll down your cheeks,
Fear besiege your haunted heart,
You try to laugh and look cool,
But you can’t restrain crying.

You just wish, if only you had key,
A miracle Password to everything,
That could change things like in dreams.
Waking up in life and reality,
Regrets sweeps your heart
Like cold morning whirlwind.

You view and review the past
Hurting and haunting memory test
Torments you like wicked demons,
An ill will ghost sucks your peace
Life is not fair at all,
Is all you can manage to say.
You look back and see
A mountain of wasted chances,
An extensive ocean of opportunities,
That is now gone, gone for ever.

You wish to defy the law of time,
Regress in that dark era
When you took everything for granted
But you fall short and sharp.
The god of wishes guides you back
And you wish for these chances.

When you have a chance and ability,
And there is something you wish to do
Don’t wait for tomorrow or another day,
It’s always safe to do it right away.
At time you encounter a situation
You want to take an action,
But you can’t, there is no chance.

You wish you had an opportunity
To say something real and romantic
To someone you love and adore,
The true angel of your heart
To kiss and hug him or her
But you find you can’t.
There is no space and chance.

You wish you had an opportunity
To apologize for mistakes you did,
For something awful and awkward
You once recklessly uttered.
For causing an intense grief and pain
To family members or a friend,
And left their hearts in stain
But you can’t, you are fixed.
As a captive you suffer and wilt
A hostage of regrets and guilt,

You set out to help but, it’s too late,
Too late and you can’t.
You try to control things
Put them in order as you would
But, you can’t.
Life is not meant to be fair,
Tolerance is the thing
That can keep us going.
Remember, it’s always safe and good
To do something when you can
And avoid regrets of life
For a wasted opportunity.
